The Place of Pain becomes the Birthplace of Passion
I used to dread seeing this card, because I could see nothing good in it. I saw it through the lens of it’s usual attributions of sadness, disappointment, betrayal, loss. A universal card, we might say. Whether a person looks down at the ground, grey and drab, or puts on their best face and brightest dress, hidden beneath the surface, is their heart. You can guarantee that heart will have been pierced, maybe many times. Maybe relationships have broken down, or there is loss, or bitter communications with others. And self. What story do you tell yourself about the sorrows you carry? About your ability to achieve your dreams, and about your deserving of them? Now I love to see this beautiful card, for acknowledgement of pain carries a sweet kindness paving a path towards healing. Threes in the Tarot are about growth, development and are a unifying force. There is achievement, and potential, and progress. Where our hearts are pierced is where our light shines out from, for the place of pain becomes the birthplace of passion. The gifts we have for the world pour out with our blood. The rain from the soft clouds falls like tears, bathing, soothing and healing. And that heart, it’s so vital, so alive with its passionate red, the colour of life.
